About Us

1991 – Davidson Medical Ministries Clinic, Inc., was founded by Dr. James Slyman in an effort to serve the uninsured population of Davidson County, which comprised approximately 19% of Davidson County residents.

1992 – DMMC opened its doors as a free clinic providing services to residents under 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.  The clinic only operated one night a week with only one part-time employee, Sandy Motley, RN.  Today, Sandy continues to lead the clinic as Executive Director.

1999 – A capital campaign raised $1.7 million to purchase property and build a 9,400 square foot facility on N. Salisbury Street in Lexington. The clinic transitioned from operating only two nights a week to a full-time charitable clinic.

2005 – DMMC partnered with Thomasville Medical Center to open a satellite clinic inside the hospital operating only one night a week giving birth to Davidson Medical Ministries -Thomasville.

2012 – DMMC partnered with Gaston Family Health Services to become a Federally Qualified Health Center: Davidson Health Services. DMMC and DHS became a hybrid organization, each with its own identity and 501(c)(3) status, but functioning as a single entity.

2016 – Davidson Health Services General Dentistry re-opened a children’s dental clinic (located inside DMMC – Lexington); Davidson Health Services General Dentistry.

2016 – Thomasville Clinic was relocated to a leased facility and was able to expand its hours of operation.

We’re not done yet! Davidson Medical Ministries is always growing and expanding. DMMC is a beautiful story of collaboration, caring and community. We often describe it as a jigsaw puzzle – each piece within itself is not that much, but together a beautiful picture is made. We appreciate every contribution made, every partnership and every volunteer who has donated time and resources.
